Over the past several weeks, I have found myself struggling to prepare a blog post. I always want the satisfaction of having a beautifully written piece published, but it can be a challenge to make it happen.
With the whirlwind of life, I have not been reading as much idea-provoking material or putting enough thought into blog topics. I have noticed that this has made a difference in my creativity. As I was preparing to write this week, I was inspired with the thought, “keep persevering”. It was a quiet and quick motivation that sparked my spirit.
I found the following definition of perseverance:
After reading this definition, I immediately knew what to write about! Here are three insights about perseverance that I have gleaned from my own struggles.
- Encouragement is key. Let’s imagine ourselves as a boxer. Every round of life beats us up making it so easy to be discouraged. In our corner is a team of people waiting to patch us up, give us some pointers about what to watch out for the next time out, and rally our spirits with positivity and confidence.
- Life is never easy. Why is it that I so I often fall into the trap of thinking that life should be easy? Perhaps I have the wrong perspective. I am reminded of the line that Tom Hanks delivered in A League of Their Own when his star player complained of baseball being “too hard”. He responds, “The hard is what makes it great”. The difficulties of life have a way of refining us if we allow them to instead of fighting against them.
- Persistence! It seems fairly safe to say that we will all encounter obstacles. Overcoming them requires grit and determination. Not long ago I was watching one of the Spartan races on TV. Over and over again the competing teams had to adopt a “never give up” attitude to complete the task in front of them. When facing a challenge our enduring tenaciousness will lead us to victory!
I am convinced that only through perseverance will I be able to inscribe my mark on the world. When you find yourself facing difficulties and discouragement, do not allow the obstacles in front of you to defeat you. Keep persevering. In the end you will be glad you did.
